About Chestnut Horse Feed
Horses have evolved to eat a high fibre diet - hence their intestinal system
is designed to process large amounts of forage ingested on an almost continual basis. However, the
nutritional requirements of leisure and sport horses cannot always be met by high bulk low energy
forage, such as hay, alone.
Feeding a diet high in starch (cereal) may be detrimental. Undigested starch can
ferment in the hindgut causing a reduction in pH, resulting in acidosis. Fibre/cereal mixes are
preferable for a high starch diet, and meet energy demands whilst helping to ensure optimum gut health.
A diet high in fibre will more closely fulfil your horse’s behavioural motivation to forage.
The products in our Chestnut Range of Horse Feeds have been formulated with the
expertise of our independent equine nutritionists Julie Ellis BSc(hons), MSc, MHFST and Donna Allen
BSc(hons) at Equisine14. Chestnut Horse Feeds have been tested on a large range of horses and ponies,
and subjected to extensive scientific palatability trials so you can be sure that our products are both
nutritionally balanced and appetising.
Chestnut Horse Feeds are an all-natural range of products, meaning:
NO Chemically processed ingredients
